Carrie
Carrie Pilmer is a passionate educator and experienced guide with over a decade of teaching English and Spanish both in the U.S. and abroad. Her journey began at Alchesay High School on the White Mountain Apache Indian Reservation in Arizona, where she taught a wide range of English courses— from AP Literature for high school seniors to literacy support for freshmen. She later fulfilled a lifelong dream by teaching at a bilingual international school in Santa Marta, Colombia. It was here that she discovered her love for dual language instruction, which led her to pursue a master’s degree in ESOL and Bilingual Education. Carrie is committed to empowering students through the development of critical thinking and autonomy in learning.
Her time in Colombia deepened her connection to the country’s vibrant culture, stunning landscapes, and welcoming people. Carrie is especially excited to share the wonders of Colombia’s coffee region with travelers, offering them a chance to immerse themselves in its rich heritage and natural beauty.
Before her teaching career, Carrie worked as a raft guide on the Arkansas River and led educational trips to the US-Mexico border for the University of Arizona. She believes in the transformative power of travel and adventure and is passionate about creating meaningful experiences for both students and travelers alike. Whether in the classroom or on the road, Carrie thrives on making authentic connections with people, believing that these moments are the heart of every journey.
When she’s not organizing tours, Carrie teaches English and Education courses at Oregon State University and enjoys spending as much time outdoors as possible.
